Immunization and Vaccination

With the flu season in full swing, it’s not surprising that most patients and physicians have immunizations and vaccinations on the brain. It is recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices that all long-term care residents receive the flu vaccination every year, however, that rarely happens. In a study done in 2004, standing orders for influenza vaccinations made a difference.

The flu is not the only cause for immunization and vaccination. In a report by Dr. Richard Stefanacci, vaccination quality measures are addressed. More vaccines are available for more illnesses in LTC facilities has years go on and it’s important that physicians follow proper guidelines when administering immunizations.
